I'm fed up with all the useless Shih Tzu puppy training courses out there! You know, I've seek help from 3 different dog training guides but none of their methods worked on my Shih Tzu puppy Chocho.
Here's the problem, my puppy had this annoying habit of jumping up on people and freaking them out. Some friends think "oh-how-cute" cute, but my in-laws were freaked out by this behavior. And that's not all, Chocho barks all the time.
I tell you, that pup is insane!
After weeks of intensive clicker training sessions, he's doing all well now, thank goodness. You got that right! I used this popular method for my Shih Tzu puppy training.
I came upon another training guide that places heavy emphasis on using the clicker to help shape positive behaviors in dogs and puppies.
Look, you can check out the comprehensive clicker guide by referring to the external material section below. In the mean time, buy a clicker and use the methods below to help you deal with a couple of common Shih tzu behavior problems...
Crazy Jumping
With a cheap clicker, you can easily train your Shih Tzu puppy to quit jumping on people by redirecting him to a more acceptable behavior. See, what you should do is train your puppy to obey the sit command whenever he tries to jump on people. Here's how:
• Your Shih Tzu puppy must know the sit command (basic stuff). Now when you see him ready to jump, immediately tell him to sit.
• As soon as he sits, click the clicker once, present the treat to him and praise. Also crouch and give him a pet for better response.
Crazy Barking
Once again, your puppy needs to know the sit command in order for this to work.
• Instruct your puppy to sit as soon as you hear him barks. If he obeys, click the deliver reward. My Chocho usually stops barking once he responds to the sit command.
Seriously, Shih Tzu puppy training can be fun and effective. All you need is a $2 clicker along with proper behavior shaping techniques.
Speaking of behavior shaping techniques, please refer to the following external material link to check out a step-by-step guide (with detailed photos) that explains how to train your dog or puppy using a clicker.
